Sigma Advanced Systems Overhauls Board to Propel Global Aerospace and Defence Ambitions
In a significant strategic maneuver, Sigma Advanced Systems Ltd., a prominent domestic defence and aerospace company headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana, has announced a comprehensive reconstitution of its Board of Directors. This pivotal restructuring is designed to fortify the company's governance framework and provide enhanced strategic oversight as it embarks on an aggressive expansion phase within the global aerospace and defence industry.
Induction of Seasoned Leaders to Strengthen Governance
The company has inducted three new independent directors, each bringing a wealth of specialized expertise from critical domains. This move is aimed at combining deep operational experience with robust independent oversight to support Sigma's escalating international ambitions.
The newly appointed members include:
- Lt. Gen. B. S. Raju (Retd.), a distinguished former Vice Chief of the Army Staff and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the South Western Command. With extensive experience in defence procurement and military operations, his insights are expected to be invaluable in navigating the complex defence ecosystem.
- Ambassador Nagendra Prasad, a seasoned Indian Foreign Service officer with over three decades of diplomatic service. His expertise spans international trade, export controls, ITAR/EAR compliance, and global regulatory frameworks, having served as India's Ambassador to Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan and Consul General in San Francisco.
- Kartheek Raju, an expert in large-scale aerospace manufacturing and global supply chains. Known for his strategic acumen in capital allocation and corporate strategy, he has previously led the iLabs Family Office, focusing on value creation and sustainable growth in high-impact industries.
Together, these appointments infuse the Board with a diverse mix of strategic, operational, and global policy experience, positioning Sigma for more effective leadership in a competitive market.
Enhanced Board Committees and Structured Decision-Making
With the new structure in place, Sigma is also reinforcing key Board committees, including Audit, Risk, Nomination, and Remuneration. This enhancement is expected to drive more structured and committee-driven decision-making processes, with a heightened emphasis on compliance, risk oversight, and financial discipline. The Board will play an expanded role in reviewing critical areas such as export controls, cybersecurity safeguards, internal audits, and quality systems, ensuring a resilient foundation for growth.
Timing Aligned with Expansion into Global Markets
The Board restructuring coincides with Sigma's transition into a new growth phase, characterized by expansion into international markets, increasing export programs, and deeper integration into global aerospace supply chains. The company has been actively expanding its footprint through strategic partnerships, technology collaborations, and acquisitions, including recent international deals and securing major defence orders in India.
Commenting on this development, Sunil Kalidindi, CEO of Sigma Advanced Systems Ltd., stated, "The reconstitution of our Board reflects Sigma's evolution as we scale operations globally. By incorporating deeper aerospace and defence expertise along with international insights, we are strengthening our governance foundation while positioning the company for sustained expansion. This reinforces our commitment to operational excellence, compliance, and long-term value creation for stakeholders."
Strategic Vision for the Next Three to Five Years
Over the coming years, the Board is expected to serve a dual role as both a governance anchor and a strategic guide. The leadership team anticipates that this strengthened structure will accelerate growth initiatives, expand exports and international partnerships, and enhance institutional credibility. With robust oversight and broader expertise at the Board level, Sigma aims to build a resilient foundation to achieve its long-term ambitions in the global aerospace and defence market.
