Sudha Milk Price Hiked by Rs 2 Per Litre in Bihar, Jharkhand

Patna: The Bihar State Milk Co-operative Federation (Comfed) has announced a price increase of Rs 2 per litre across all variants of Sudha milk in Bihar and Jharkhand, effective from May 22. This marks the third price revision in the last two years.

Revised Prices for Sudha Milk Variants

With the new rates, Sudha Gold (full cream) milk will now cost Rs 67 per litre, up from Rs 65. Sudha Shakti milk has been revised to Rs 59 per litre from Rs 57, while cow milk will now be priced at Rs 56 per litre instead of Rs 54. Toned and double-toned milk variants have also seen a similar increase of Rs 2 per litre.

Other Products Unchanged

However, prices of other Sudha products such as ghee, peda, and lassi remain unchanged for the time being. Comfed officials stated that the price revision was necessitated due to rising production and operational costs, including a sharp increase in cattle feed prices and transportation expenses.

Reason for Price Hike

Officials explained that the dairy sector has been facing sustained cost escalation over the past few years, leading to periodic revisions in retail prices. This is the third price revision by Sudha in the last two years. Previously, on May 21, 2025, the cooperative had increased milk prices by up to Rs 2 per litre in Bihar, and on June 4, 2024, all variants saw a similar hike.

National Context

At the national level, Amul increased milk prices by Rs 2 per litre across its range from May 1, while Mother Dairy has also recently implemented a similar revision. Sudha milk is operated by Comfed, established in 1983 as Bihar's cooperative dairy initiative aimed at ensuring fair prices for farmers and curbing exploitation by middlemen.

Impact on Households

The latest hike is expected to impact lakhs of households across Bihar and Jharkhand that rely on Sudha milk for daily consumption. Consumers are advised to check the new rates at their local retail outlets.
