Telangana DCA Raids Pharmaceutical Firm in Alwal Over Fake Labels

Hyderabad: The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) conducted a raid on a pharmaceutical company in Alwal and seized stocks valued at ₹70.56 lakh for allegedly tampering with labels and using fictitious manufacturing details for pharmaceutical excipients. Excipients are inactive substances formulated alongside the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) in medications.

Acting on specific intelligence, DCA officials raided DK Pharmaceuticals located in Mangapuram Colony, Old Alwal, on Friday. During the inspection, authorities discovered 12 cardboard drums containing 240 kg of hydroxypropyl betadex USP/NF, a pharmaceutical excipient used as a solubilising and stabilising agent in drug manufacturing.

According to the DCA, the drums bore labels indicating a manufacturing date of May 2026 and an expiry date of April 2029. The labels also claimed the product was manufactured by DK Pharmaceuticals at its facility in Pashamylaram, Sangareddy. However, verification by officials revealed that the manufacturing unit mentioned on the labels was fictitious and did not exist.

Further investigation revealed that the firm’s partners, Sateesh Babu Dhulapalli and Nagaswami Katragadda, had allegedly removed the original labels from the excipient and affixed fabricated labels containing false details. The entire stock was seized during the raid.

DCA officials collected samples for analysis and stated that further investigation is ongoing. “Such activities constitute serious violations under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and are punishable with imprisonment of up to five years,” an official said.
