Telangana Secures Third Position Among India's Top Talent-Positive States
Hyderabad: In a significant development highlighting its growing economic appeal, Telangana has firmly retained its position as India's third most talent-positive state for white-collar professionals over the past twelve months. According to the latest annual study by talent solutions provider Xpheno, the young state continues to demonstrate remarkable pull, trailing only behind Karnataka and Haryana in attracting and retaining skilled workforce.
Massive Influx of Jobseekers Marks Telangana's Appeal
The comprehensive research on talent corridors and exchange patterns reveals that over 25 lakh jobseekers from across India, including fresh graduates, have identified Telangana as their preferred career destination. This substantial figure underscores the state's evolving reputation as a major employment hub. Notably, approximately 12 lakh of these aspiring professionals hail from other metropolitan centers, with Bengaluru alone contributing 4.3 lakh active jobseekers who specifically named Hyderabad as their target city.
Positive Talent Balance and Growing Workforce
During the study period, Telangana demonstrated robust talent absorption capabilities, recording 77,800 white-collar talent acquisitions against 52,300 exits. This resulted in a positive net talent balance of 25,500 professionals, solidifying its status as a net gainer in the competitive talent market. Karnataka led the rankings with a positive balance of 74,000, followed by Haryana at 26,700.
The state's accessible white-collar talent pool has shown impressive growth, expanding to 48.9 lakh professionals in FY26. This represents a substantial 17% increase from 41.9 lakh in FY25 and a significant jump from 37.3 lakh in FY24. Within this active workforce, 23.9 lakh individuals (49%) are experienced professionals with at least one year of work experience.
Hyderabad's Dominance and Regional Contributions
Hyderabad continues to be the epicenter of Telangana's talent ecosystem, hosting 23.7 lakh experienced professionals within the state capital. Meanwhile, other districts including Warangal, Medak, Nalgonda, and Nizamabad collectively contribute 52,700 experienced professionals to the state's talent pool. The study noted that talent contribution from locations outside Hyderabad has nearly doubled compared to the previous period, indicating broader regional development.
Global Capability Centers and Sectoral Distribution
Kamal Karanth, co-founder of Xpheno, emphasized that Hyderabad's primary attraction lies in its successful recruitment of global capability centers from prestigious multinational corporations. Major companies across diverse sectors such as Heineken, McDonald's, Marriott, Eli Lilly, and MSD have established significant operations in the city, creating substantial employment opportunities.
The technology sector remains the largest employer in Telangana, accounting for 39% of the active experienced talent pool, equivalent to 9.42 lakh professionals. This is followed by:
- Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI)
- Business consulting and services
- Healthcare and pharmaceuticals
Functionally, engineering leads with 4.90 lakh professionals, followed by business development and sales at 3.02 lakh, and information technology at 2.76 lakh. Approximately 35% of the experienced white-collar workforce holds qualifications in computer science and IT, complemented by Telangana's annual production of over one lakh engineering graduates.
Talent Corridors and Comparative Analysis
The report highlighted Telangana's strong bidirectional talent corridors with major states and metropolitan regions. Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra remain the top states for two-way talent movement with Telangana. Internationally, the United States has emerged as the leading overseas corridor for white-collar talent exchange with the state.
In contrast, the study identified several talent-negative states experiencing net professional outflows. Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, and Bihar recorded net talent losses ranging from 9,000 to 22,000 professionals during the same period.
Telangana's consistent performance as a talent magnet reflects its strategic investments in infrastructure, policy frameworks, and industry partnerships that continue to attract both domestic and international professionals seeking rewarding career opportunities.
