Haryana Cabinet Greenlights Significant 35% Minimum Wage Increase
The Haryana cabinet, in a pivotal decision on Wednesday, has given its approval for a substantial 35% hike in minimum wages across all categories of workers. This move, announced by Labour Minister Anil Vij, is set to bring much-needed economic relief to the state's workforce, with the revised rates scheduled to take effect from April 1, 2026.
Revised Wage Structure Details
Under the new wage slabs, the monthly earnings for unskilled labourers will see a notable rise from Rs 11,274.60 to Rs 15,220. Similarly, semi-skilled workers will benefit from an increase to Rs 16,780.74, up from Rs 12,430.18. For skilled workers, wages are set to climb to Rs 18,500.81 from Rs 13,704.31, while highly skilled workers will receive Rs 19,425.85, a jump from Rs 14,389.52.
The cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, finalized these adjustments, which are expected to strengthen household incomes and improve the financial stability of workers across Haryana.
Implementation Linked to New Labour Codes
Minister Anil Vij emphasized that this wage revision follows the implementation of four new labour codes in the state on November 21, 2025. These codes include:
- The Code on Wages, 2019
- Industrial Relations Code, 2020
- Social Security Code, 2020
- Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020
This alignment with the labour codes ensures that the wage hike is structured within a modern regulatory framework, aimed at enhancing worker protections and economic conditions.
The approval marks a significant step towards addressing wage disparities and supporting the livelihoods of Haryana's labor force, with the new rates poised to impact millions of workers positively from 2026 onward.
