Hyderabad: 4th Fastest Growing Global City by 2035

Hyderabad Ranks Among World's Fastest Growing Economic Hubs with 8.47% Annual Expansion

Hyderabad is making remarkable strides on the global economic stage, positioning itself as the fourth fastest growing city by GDP worldwide by 2035. According to the Economic Survey 2025-26 presented by the Central government, Hyderabad's economy is projected to expand at a robust annual rate of 8.47%, reaching an impressive $201.4 billion at current prices by the target year.

Municipal Bond Leadership and Financial Milestones

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has achieved national distinction by emerging as India's leading municipal corporation in bond issuance. Up to September 2025, GHMC successfully raised ₹500 crore through municipal bonds, marking the highest amount mobilized by any Indian city during this period. Ahmedabad follows Hyderabad in this financial achievement, having issued bonds worth ₹400 crore.

Comparative Growth Among Indian Cities

While Hyderabad demonstrates exceptional economic momentum, it ranks behind three other Indian cities in projected growth rates. Surat leads with 9.17%, followed by Agra at 8.58% and Bengaluru at 8.50%. The Economic Survey reveals that Hyderabad's GDP is expected to quadruple from $50 billion in 2018 to $201.4 billion by 2035, representing one of the most dramatic economic transformations among global urban centers.

Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh also features prominently among growth leaders, projected to rank among the top 10 fastest growing cities globally with an 8.17% GDP growth rate. Its economy is anticipated to expand from $5.6 billion in 2018 to $21 billion by 2035.

Telangana's Broader Economic Ambitions

The economic momentum reflected in the survey aligns perfectly with Telangana's ambitious vision of becoming a $3 trillion economy by 2047, with Hyderabad positioned as the primary engine driving this growth. Beyond municipal achievements, Telangana demonstrates significant industrial strength, accounting for nearly 5% of India's total manufacturing employment and reinforcing its growing role in the national industrial landscape.

Technology and Innovation Leadership

Hyderabad has emerged as a major contributor to India's services sector, particularly excelling in high-productivity areas including information technology, finance, and professional services. The city solidifies its status as a technology and innovation hub by being home to nearly 7% of India's AI startups, creating a vibrant ecosystem for technological advancement and entrepreneurship.

This comprehensive economic development positions Hyderabad not just as a regional powerhouse but as a significant player on the global economic stage, combining traditional industrial strength with cutting-edge technological innovation to drive sustained growth through 2035 and beyond.
