Bengaluru's Magrath Road Revamp: Wider Footpaths, Better Drainage Near Completion
Magrath Road Revamp: Wider Footpaths, Better Drainage

Bengaluru's Magrath Road Gets a Modern Urban Revamp

The 350-metre stretch between Brigade Road and Commissariat Road in central Bengaluru has been redeveloped into a redesigned urban street. The upgrade focuses on smoother driving conditions with improved infrastructure and enhanced urban connectivity near the Garuda Mall corridor.

Widened Footpaths and Upgraded Lighting Transform Stretch

The project includes wider, more accessible footpaths along the stretch along with upgraded aesthetic streetlights. These changes improve pedestrian movement, visibility, and overall usability of the road, making the corridor more structured for daily commuters and visitors.

Rs 3 Crore Upgrade Nears Completion After Year-Long Work

The redevelopment, costing around Rs 3 crore, took nearly a year to complete. With work nearing completion, the stretch is expected to significantly improve road conditions and help address long-standing flooding issues during heavy rains.

Bengaluru's Road Level Raised to Tackle Chronic Waterlogging Issues

A key intervention was raising the road level by more than a foot to address chronic waterlogging. The adjustment helps reduce flooding during heavy rains and also improves access to adjoining properties and intersecting roads along the stretch.

Advanced Drainage System Improves Rainwater Flow

Additional underground stormwater drainage pipes have been installed on both sides of the road. Extra gratings were also added to ensure faster drainage during heavy rainfall, improving water flow management and reducing flooding risk in the area.

Underground KPTCL Line Adds Construction Complexity

The stretch includes a major underground KPTCL power line connected to the Museum Road substation. This made the redevelopment more complex, requiring careful planning and execution to ensure utility safety and uninterrupted functionality.

Multi-Agency Coordination Enables Smooth Execution

The project involved coordination among multiple government agencies and utility providers. Efforts were made to ensure all property connections were aligned and functioning before closing chambers, ensuring smooth integration of infrastructure systems.

Bengaluru's Stone Matrix Asphalt Ensures Durable Road Surface

The road has been constructed using stone matrix asphalt, chosen for its durability and longer service life compared to conventional surfacing. This ensures stronger road quality, better resilience, and reduced maintenance needs over time.
