Mumbai: Considering the financial burden on the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) due to rising fuel costs, the 10% fare hike that was unavoidably implemented for ordinary bus services has been extended by another month, an official said on Monday. Therefore, the increased fare rates will now remain in effect until midnight of July 15.
Reasons for Extension
With the aim of effective planning of passenger transport and revenue growth during the summer rush season, the MSRTC implemented a 10% seasonal increase in the fares of ordinary bus services from April 15. This fare hike was set to expire on June 15. However, considering the increased expenditure due to fuel price hikes as well as the increase in the dearness allowance of employees, approval has been given to extend this decision, an official said.
New Fare Structure
According to this decision, the per-stage rate for ordinary and midi bus services will remain at Rs 11, and the minimum fare will remain at Rs 14 for adult passengers and Rs 7 for children. The corporation has directed all divisional controllers, regional managers and concerned officers to implement this decision immediately.
