As fuel prices continue to strain household budgets, the residents’ welfare association (RWA) of Sector 105 in Noida has called upon residents to adopt carpooling for commuting to Delhi, Gurgaon, Faridabad, and Greater Noida. A dedicated WhatsApp group will be created to streamline coordination, allowing residents to share travel routes, timings, and contact details.
Voluntary Initiative for Community and Environment
RWA president Deepak Sharma emphasized that this is a voluntary, non-profit initiative. “If the number of cars leaving Sector 105 daily can be reduced from approximately 100 to just 35-50, it would significantly cut traffic congestion and pollution levels. Moreover, it will foster a sense of community and help tackle both the financial burden of rising fuel prices and environmental concerns,” Sharma stated.
Resident Enthusiasm and Additional Demands
The campaign has been met with great enthusiasm from residents. One resident also proposed the introduction of an e-rickshaw shuttle service to the Botanical Garden metro station, similar to arrangements in neighboring sectors, with trips every two hours.
Fuel Price Hike Context
Since the onset of the US-Iran conflict, fuel prices have been hiked four times, with the latest increase announced last month. In Delhi-NCR, petrol currently costs Rs 102.12 per litre, while diesel is priced at Rs 95.20 per litre.
