Pachaiyappa's College Opens Doors to Girls for UG Courses After 184 Years
Pachaiyappa's College Now Co-Ed: Girls Can Apply for UG

Chennai: After receiving co-educational status from the state government, girls can now apply to the 12 undergraduate courses at the 184-year-old Pachaiyappa's College until July 31. Previously, the college admitted girls only to its postgraduate programs.

Historic Change for Women Students

"Opening the doors of this historic institution to women students will create greater opportunities for quality higher education," said Baby Gulnaz, principal of the college. The college has a sanctioned strength of approximately 1,100 students in its undergraduate courses.

Growing Trend of Co-Education in Chennai

Recently, Government Arts College in Nandanam also transitioned to a co-educational institution and received thousands of applications from girls in and around the city. Professors noted that admissions to women's colleges in Chennai are becoming increasingly competitive, prompting many girls to seek colleges within the city limits.
