Two Nagaland villages get modern irrigation scheme

Dimapur: Two villages in Peren district -- Jalukiekam and Beisumpuikam -- have been selected for the Modernisation of Command Area Development and Water Management (M-CADWM) scheme by the Union ministry of jal shakti to supply irrigation water in the agricultural fields through pressurised pipes, reports Bhadra Gogoi.

Modern irrigation approach

The M-CADWM scheme aims to shift outdated, canal-based agricultural irrigation to pressurised piped water networks, significantly improving on-farm water use efficiency.

Awareness programme highlights

Addressing an awareness programme on the scheme at Beisumpuikam village council hall on Thursday, Shubham Pachauri, deputy director, ministry of jal shakti, said the current problem with the irrigation system is leakage in canals or tail-end farmers not receiving water and no proper accounting of water usage, for which change was needed.
