Gujarat's Tax Revenue Sees Strong Uptick in March 2026

In a significant economic development, Gujarat's tax revenues posted a robust increase in March 2026, primarily driven by substantial growth in state GST collections. The state's financial performance highlights a positive trend in fiscal management and economic activity.

March 2026: A Month of Impressive Gains

State GST (SGST) collections in Gujarat surged by 18.7% year-on-year to reach Rs 7,352 crore in March 2026, up from Rs 6,190 crore in the same month last year. On a month-on-month basis, SGST revenue was 8.8% higher than in February, indicating consistent growth momentum.

The state exchequer's total collection for March amounted to Rs 11,418 crore, sourced from a mix of levies. In addition to SGST, Value Added Tax (VAT) contributed Rs 2,714 crore, electricity duty added Rs 1,328 crore, and business tax brought in Rs 24 crore, showcasing a diversified revenue stream.

Full Financial Year 2025-26 Overview

For the entire financial year 2025-26, Gujarat recorded SGST revenue of Rs 81,410 crore, marking an 11.1% increase over the previous year. The state's share in SGST stood at 8.3%, reflecting its significant contribution to national tax pools.

Among other tax streams, VAT collections in FY26 totaled Rs 32,677 crore, while electricity duty generated Rs 12,493 crore and business tax contributed Rs 266 crore. Combined revenue from SGST, VAT, electricity duty, and business tax reached Rs 1,26,846 crore for the fiscal year, underscoring the state's strong economic performance.

This growth in tax revenues signals robust economic activity and effective fiscal policies in Gujarat, positioning the state as a key contributor to India's overall tax landscape.
