The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is set to significantly boost the capabilities of the upcoming Medical Device Park in Noida. The authority will develop a comprehensive ecosystem of 13 specialized laboratories, including a high-tech gamma radiation facility, within the park located in Sector 28 of Yamuna City.
Strategic Partnership for Advanced Radiation Centre
In a key move, YEIDA officials confirmed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed with the Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology (BRIT) on January 8 in Mumbai. BRIT, which operates under the Department of Atomic Energy, will provide the crucial technical expertise and ensure strict adherence to safety protocols for the gamma radiation centre. This collaboration is designed to make the facility technologically robust and fully compliant with all regulatory standards.
For the operation and maintenance of the remaining 12 labs, YEIDA plans to select a private agency. Shailendra Bhatia, the Additional CEO of YEIDA, stated that recent discussions with Medical Device Park stakeholders led to a consensus on appointing a private entity to run these laboratories.
A Complete Lab Ecosystem to Empower Manufacturers
The planned laboratories are part of six Common Scientific Facility Centres (CSFCs) and cover a wide spectrum of cutting-edge domains essential for medical device innovation and production. The list includes:
- 3D Design, Rapid Prototyping and Tooling
- Internet of Medical Technology (IoMT)
- Biomaterial Testing
- Electronic Assembly and System Design
- Sensor Testing and Integration
- AI, Machine Learning and Computing
- Mechatronics Zone
- Digital Display Zone
Officials emphasized that this integrated infrastructure will allow manufacturers to conduct product design, testing, calibration, and validation entirely within the park. This is expected to drastically reduce production costs and turnaround times for companies, while simultaneously fostering innovation and ensuring products meet global quality standards.
Park Development Progress and Future Impact
The Medical Device Park is already seeing rapid development. YEIDA has allotted over 100 plots to companies so far. Construction is actively underway at seven units, and one company has even commenced production. The authority has completed the construction of the park's administrative building.
Once fully operational, the park is projected to attract more than 200 medical device manufacturing companies. The advanced laboratory infrastructure is seen as a critical component to draw investment and scale up production in the region. By reducing dependence on external testing and research facilities, the park aims to create a self-sufficient, world-class hub for the medical technology industry in India.
