Tragic Lift Accident Claims Two Young Lives in Surat Textile Factory
In a devastating industrial accident, two young labourers lost their lives when an industrial elevator they were using collapsed from the fifth floor of a textile factory in Surat. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at Akshar Fabrics, located in the Sayan GIDC area of Olpad.
Victims Identified as Young Labourers
Police have identified the deceased as Ricky Mohanto, aged 22, and Kishan Mohanto, aged 23. According to official statements from the Olpad police, the two workers were performing their routine duties of transporting goods from the fifth floor to the ground floor using the industrial lift when the catastrophe struck.
The fatal accident happened when the cable supporting the industrial elevator suddenly snapped, causing the lift to plummet from the significant height. The impact of the fall was immediately catastrophic for the two workers inside the elevator.
Emergency Response and Investigation
Other factory employees who witnessed the horrific incident from the ground floor immediately rushed to help the injured labourers. They transported the severely injured workers to a nearby hospital in Sayan town. Unfortunately, medical professionals at the hospital declared both men dead upon arrival.
Olpad police inspector C R Jadav confirmed that an accidental death case has been formally registered in connection with the tragedy. "A factory inspection team reached the spot," Inspector Jadav stated. "They will prepare a report and we will decide our future course of action later."
The police have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact cause of the cable failure and whether any safety protocols were violated. The incident has raised serious questions about industrial safety standards in textile factories, particularly regarding the maintenance and inspection of heavy machinery like industrial elevators.
Growing Concerns About Workplace Safety
This tragic event highlights the ongoing concerns about workplace safety in industrial settings across India. The textile industry, being one of the major employment sectors, frequently relies on heavy machinery and equipment that require regular maintenance and safety checks.
The fact that two young workers in their early twenties lost their lives in such a preventable accident has sparked discussions about the need for stricter enforcement of safety regulations in industrial establishments. Factory owners and managers are being reminded of their responsibility to ensure all equipment meets safety standards and undergoes regular inspection.
As the investigation continues, the families of Ricky Mohanto and Kishan Mohanto are left mourning the untimely loss of their loved ones. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of workplace safety protocols and the devastating consequences when they are compromised.
