Lucknow: In a significant push to the jewellery industry, the Yogi Adityanath government has approved the development of a ₹800-crore jewellery park in Meerut. This project aims to transform the city’s traditional sarafa (bullion) trade into a globally competitive business hub.
Project Details
The park will be developed by the Meerut Development Authority (MDA) at Vedvyaspuri over nearly 36,000 square metres. On Wednesday, MDA officials unveiled the project model before traders and industry representatives, showcasing its unique architecture.
Architectural Highlights
A key highlight of the project is its unique design. The main structure has been shaped like a crown, while the entrance gate will resemble a traditional earring, reflecting Meerut’s long-standing association with the jewellery trade.
Facilities and Infrastructure
The integrated park will house showrooms, wholesale trading centres, artisan workshops, manufacturing units, exhibition spaces, banking facilities, and common service centres under one roof. Separate entry points for different business segments, advanced security arrangements, and accommodation facilities for buyers and sellers have also been planned.
Government Strategy
Officials said the initiative is part of the Yogi government’s broader strategy to strengthen industrial infrastructure and promote export-oriented sectors. The park is expected to streamline the entire jewellery value chain—from manufacturing and trading to marketing and exports—within a single complex.
Industry Response
Trade bodies welcomed the move, stating it would enhance production capacity, attract investment, and generate large-scale employment. Industry representatives believe the project will provide a major boost to exports and help establish Meerut as a prominent national and international jewellery manufacturing and trading hub.
