The state leaders warned on Tuesday that numerous restaurants, hotels, and catering services across the city could face temporary shutdowns if the supply chain is not restored promptly.
Government Intervention Sought Through Formal Letter
Siddaramaiah has formally written to Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, seeking immediate intervention to resolve the escalating crisis. In his detailed letter, the Chief Minister highlighted that a revised order from the petroleum ministry, which prioritizes domestic LPG supply, appears to have inadvertently created a severe shortage for commercial users.
The letter explicitly stated: "While the intention behind the order to ensure uninterrupted LPG supply to households across the country is well understood and appreciated, its implementation appears to have led to an unintended shortage of commercial LPG in Bengaluru. Several hotels and restaurant associations in the city have reported that they are unable to procure commercial LPG cylinders, and many establishments are expressing concern that they may have to temporarily shut operations if supplies are not restored soon."
Deputy CM Calls for Parliamentary Action
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar emphasized that the shortage has become a serious concern impacting the hospitality sector significantly. He urged Members of Parliament from Karnataka to raise this critical issue during parliamentary sessions to ensure national attention and swift resolution.
