In a significant step towards promoting sustainable energy solutions, a special bioenergy demonstration stall was inaugurated at the ongoing Krishi Mela–2025 in Mandya. The ceremonial opening was performed by Jagadguru Nirmalananda Swami of the Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math.
Swamiji Stresses on Food and Energy Security
Addressing the gathering at the event, Swamiji underscored the critical importance of food and energy security for the nation's advancement. He illustrated his point with a compelling real-life example, mentioning an IPS officer's mother who manages agricultural operations successfully. This, he stated, proves that farming can be a profitable venture when pursued with dedication and the application of modern scientific techniques.
Mandya's Historic Legacy in Biofuel Production
The stall is a joint initiative by the Karnataka State Bioenergy Development Board, Biofuel Park Hassan, and the Bioenergy Information and Demonstration Centre, Mandya. Speaking on the occasion, the Board's Chairman, SE Sudheendra, elaborated on this year's theme: 'Sustainability from Integrated Agriculture'. He explained how this theme naturally bridges the agricultural and bioenergy sectors.
Sudheendra took the audience on a historical journey, revealing Mandya's pioneering role in India's biofuel story. He noted that as early as 1939, during British rule in World War II, the district supplied ethanol to fuel public transport buses in Mumbai. Building on this legacy, he expressed confidence that Mandya, renowned as the sugar bowl, can play a pivotal part in helping India achieve its ambitious national target of blending 20% ethanol with petrol by the year 2025.
Showcasing a Sustainable Future
The demonstration stall at Krishi Mela serves as a practical platform to educate farmers and the public about the latest innovations and benefits in the bioenergy domain. It aligns with broader national goals of reducing fossil fuel dependence, promoting environmental sustainability, and creating additional revenue streams for the agricultural community. The event highlights how traditional farming districts like Mandya are integral to the country's modern energy transition.
