A devastating explosion at a chemical manufacturing facility in Ahmedabad's Naroda GIDC industrial area on Friday afternoon resulted in one fatality and injuries to three others. The blast occurred at MNS Intermediates, situated in Naroda GIDC Phase III. The deceased has been identified as Jayanti, a worker at the factory whose full surname remains unknown.
Incident Details
According to police reports, four workers sustained injuries in the blast and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Tragically, Jayanti succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IV) Atul Bansal stated, "Preliminary investigations indicate that a power failure caused the reactor to stop functioning, which likely triggered a chemical reaction leading to the explosion. The blast's impact also affected a truck carrying hydrogen, resulting in a major fire."
Emergency Response
Fire officials received an emergency call at 12:18 pm and swiftly deployed 11 vehicles, including fire tenders, water bowsers, first responder units, and two ambulances. A team of 41 personnel, comprising firefighters, drivers, and senior officers, worked diligently to bring the blaze under control. The fire intensified when a hydrogen-loaded truck parked within the compound caught fire.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact cause of the blast. Forensic science experts are expected to assist in identifying the origin of the explosion. Officials from the fire brigade and the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) are also involved in the inquiry. Police stated that further action against the factory management will be decided based on inspection reports and technical assessments.
