BPCL to Shut Mumbai Refinery Crude Unit for Maintenance in November
BPCL to Shut Mumbai Refinery Crude Unit in November

State-run Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) will shut a 120,000-barrel-per-day crude unit and some secondary processing units at its Mumbai refinery in November for planned maintenance, news agency Reuters reported on Monday, citing an industry source.

Maintenance Shutdown Details

The maintenance shutdown will affect units at BPCL's 200,000-bpd refinery in Mumbai, one of the company's key refining facilities in western India. A BPCL spokesperson said the company had initially planned to undertake the maintenance turnaround in April. Earlier, an industry source had indicated that the planned shutdown, expected to last three to four weeks, would take place during September-October, as cited by Reuters.

Context and Delays

Indian refiners have been delaying scheduled refinery maintenance programmes to ensure adequate fuel supplies and meet strong domestic demand, a government official had said previously. This delay aligns with broader industry trends where companies prioritize supply stability over routine maintenance schedules.
