Union Cabinet Honours PM Modi as Longest-Serving Elected PM

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday passed a resolution honouring Prime Minister Narendra Modi as India's longest-serving elected prime minister. The resolution was moved by Home Minister Amit Shah, who highlighted Modi's leadership and contributions to the nation's development.

Record-Breaking Tenure

PM Modi surpassed the record of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who served for 10 years and 4 days from 2004 to 2014. Modi, who took office on May 26, 2014, has now completed over 10 years in power, making him the longest-serving elected prime minister in India's history.

The cabinet resolution praised Modi's vision, decisive leadership, and commitment to the welfare of the people. It noted that under his guidance, India has achieved significant milestones in various sectors, including infrastructure, digitalization, healthcare, and foreign policy.

Accomplishments Highlighted

The resolution specifically mentioned several flagship initiatives such as the Swachh Bharat Mission, Ayushman Bharat, Digital India, and the Goods and Services Tax (GST). It also acknowledged the successful handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the implementation of the 'New Education Policy'.

Furthermore, the cabinet recognized Modi's efforts in strengthening national security, including the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Opposition Response

While the ruling party celebrated the milestone, opposition leaders criticized the move, calling it an unnecessary glorification. They argued that the cabinet should focus on pressing issues like unemployment and inflation rather than passing resolutions.

Despite the criticism, the resolution was passed unanimously by the cabinet members, who expressed their full support for the prime minister's leadership.

This honour adds to the list of accolades received by PM Modi, including the United Nations' highest environmental award, the 'Champions of the Earth' award, and the 'Global Goalkeeper Award' for the Swachh Bharat Mission.
