Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Brijesh Chowta on Saturday credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the key force behind the unprecedented transformation of highways, attributing it to the vision laid since 2014, aimed at achieving ‘Viksit Bharat 2040.’
Speaking at the Sankalpa Samavesha organized on the occasion of PM Modi’s 12 years at the helm, Chowta highlighted that the long-pending dream of a bypass road for Mangaluru from Surathkal to BC Road is being pursued, with DPR work and alignment to be completed soon.
He said a comprehensive feasibility study is underway to address congestion from Nantoor to KPT and Kuloor, and based on the study, either an underpass or overpass will be constructed. He also announced a statewide public outreach campaign aimed at directly engaging citizens and promoting development initiatives.
Chowta urged party workers to unite and strengthen the BJP, stressing that a “double-engine government” is needed and called for dedicated efforts to bring the party to power in Karnataka within two years.
In a separate release, Chowta announced that the Centre has approved 14 road projects covering 82.9 km in the district, with Rs 57 crore sanctioned under CRIF. In Ullal, projects include road development from Chambugudde–Machali Hotel, near Infosys on the Katapadi–Abbakka Circle stretch at Rs 4 crore, and a section of Sajipanadu–Boliyar at Rs 2 crore. In Moodubidire, the Hosangadi Puchamogaru bridge to Beltangady–Bantwal cross will be developed for Rs 6 crore.
Other upgrades include Bajpe to Kaikamba on the Surathkal–Kabaka road and from Polali Dwara to Adoor Bridge at Rs 6 crore, Pangalpady–Kudkoli stretch at Rs 6 crore. Other works cover Uppinangady–Periyadka–Koila Rs 2 crore, Hantyaru–Bettampady Rs 3 crore, and Kepulu–Padil Rs 1 crore.
Selected stretches of Subrahmanya–Manjeshwar and Venur–Andinje–Naravi will be developed at Rs 6 crore each. Beltangady–Moodubidire–Mulki highway renovation (Excellent College to Police Station) is estimated at Rs 5 crore.
The Somantadka–Hedya road linking NH-275 to SH-276, and the Anantady–Mangilapadavu–Kodapadavu road in Bantwal will be widened and developed at Rs 5 crore each.
