A catastrophic industrial accident unfolded on Thursday at a sponge-iron manufacturing facility in Chhattisgarh's Baloda Bazar-Bhatapara district, resulting in the tragic deaths of six migrant workers and leaving five others with serious injuries. The explosion originated from a coal kiln at the Real Ispat & Power Ltd plant, situated in the rural Bakulahi village of Bhatapara. The violent blast occurred during routine kiln operations, propelling intensely hot coal and fragmented debris across the operational platform where numerous workers were stationed. This sudden eruption caused immediate panic within the plant premises, with employees scrambling to escape the ensuing thick smoke and intense flames.
District Collector Dipak Soni provided technical insight, explaining that the kiln's dust settling chamber, which transports ash at extremely high temperatures, likely experienced a failure, contributing to the devastating blast. "The region has been sealed until the ongoing rescue operation is formally concluded," stated Soni, confirming that an official inquiry into the incident has been ordered.

Baloda Bazar Superintendent of Police Bhavna Gupta reported that emergency teams have successfully extracted eleven individuals from the blast site so far. "Rescue operations are persisting as there remains a possibility that more individuals may be trapped inside," emphasized SP Gupta. "Our foremost priority is the safe evacuation of all laborers, as initial reports indicate over fifty workers were present during the 8 am shift."
