Karnataka CM Shivakumar urges timely clearances for industry, mining projects
CM Shivakumar seeks fast-track clearances for industry, mining

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday directed officials to ensure timely clearances for industry and mining projects, stressing the need to expedite approvals to boost economic growth in the state.

Joint meeting with forest and industry departments

Shivakumar held a joint meeting with officials from the Department of Forest, Ecology and Environment, and the Department of Commerce and Industries. The meeting focused on streamlining the clearance process for industrial and mining projects to avoid delays that could hamper investment.

“We must ensure that all industry and mining projects get clearances in time. Delays in approvals lead to cost overruns and discourage investors,” Shivakumar said according to an official release.

Focus on faster approvals

The Deputy CM instructed officials to adopt a proactive approach and resolve bottlenecks in the clearance process. He emphasized the importance of coordination between departments to achieve faster approvals without compromising environmental norms.

“We need to strike a balance between development and environmental protection. Timely clearances will help create jobs and boost the state’s economy,” he added.

Impact on Karnataka’s economy

Karnataka is a key destination for industrial and mining investments. The state has several mineral-rich regions, and the mining sector contributes significantly to the state’s revenue. Industry bodies have often raised concerns about delays in obtaining clearances from multiple departments.

Shivakumar’s directive is expected to address these concerns and improve the ease of doing business in Karnataka. The move aligns with the state government’s goal to attract more investment and generate employment.

The meeting also discussed specific projects that have been pending for clearances. Officials were asked to prioritize these projects and resolve issues at the earliest.
