A tragic explosion at a factory in Ghaziabad's Sahibabad Industrial Area Site-4 claimed the lives of two workers and left a third critically injured on Thursday evening. The incident occurred when a compressor burst during a routine testing procedure at Madors Renewal Energy Pvt Ltd, owned by Ramesh Sharma.
Blast details
The explosion, which took place around evening, was so powerful that it was heard in nearby localities such as Prahladgarhi and Vasundhara, nearly 5 kilometres away. The shockwaves rattled the surrounding area. At the time of the blast, three technicians—Imran, Tribhuvan, and Banke Bihari—were testing the compressor. Police confirmed that the compressor exploded without any warning. Approximately 18 other employees were present near the testing area when the explosion occurred.
The force of the blast was devastating: one worker's hand was blown off, and the other two suffered severe injuries to their faces and bodies. A fire broke out immediately after the explosion, but factory staff managed to contain the flames before they could spread, preventing a larger catastrophe. Workers quickly pulled their colleagues out of the compressor and rushed them to a nearby hospital.
Emergency response
Chief Fire Officer Rahul Pal stated that fire brigade personnel were dispatched to the site, but by the time they arrived, the fire had already been extinguished. ACP Amit Saxena confirmed that Imran and Tribhuvan died in the incident, while Banke Bihari remains under treatment. No formal complaint has been filed yet, but police have launched an investigation to determine if any negligence on the part of the factory management contributed to the accident.
Investigation underway
While the exact cause of the explosion is still unknown, police are examining the circumstances under which the compressor failed during what was described as a standard testing procedure. Further legal action will follow once a formal complaint is lodged.
Sole breadwinner among the dead
Among the deceased was Imran, 27, a resident of Kanauja village in Muradnagar. He was the eldest son in his family and its sole breadwinner. He is survived by his father Sabuddin, his wife Shabnam, a younger brother named Rizwan, and three young children. Family members said the children are too young to understand that their father will not return home. After the news of Imran's death spread, relatives and neighbours gathered at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
