Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Progress Accelerates in Rajasthan
Construction on the monumental Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, which holds the distinction of being India's longest expressway, is advancing at a rapid pace across Rajasthan. State authorities have confirmed that they are targeting a completion date of September this year for this transformative infrastructure project.
Substantial Completion Achieved
The expressway spans an impressive 373 kilometers through the state of Rajasthan. Officials report that approximately 338 kilometers of this stretch have already been finished, leaving just 35 kilometers of construction work remaining. This significant progress underscores the focused efforts to finalize this national corridor.
Final Segments and Technical Work
A critical 27-kilometer segment, which traverses areas within the Sawai Madhopur, Dausa, and Bundi districts, is currently under active construction and is nearing its final stages of completion. Simultaneously, work is progressing on a tunnel located near Kota, although minor technical challenges have been encountered, leading to some delays in this specific section.
Design and Operational Features
The Delhi–Mumbai Expressway has been meticulously designed as a high-speed corridor, engineered to permit vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour. To ensure optimal safety and operational efficiency, the expressway will implement specific access controls.
- Slow-moving vehicles will be prohibited from using the main carriageway.
- Access will be strictly limited to designated interchanges.
- These interchanges will be equipped with modern, automated toll collection systems.
Transformative Impact on Travel Times
Once fully operational, the expressway is projected to dramatically reduce travel durations across eastern Rajasthan, delivering substantial benefits for both individual commuters and commercial logistics operators.
- The current journey between Dausa and Kota, which takes approximately five hours, is expected to be slashed to around two hours.
- The travel time from Kota to Delhi, currently a nine-hour trip, will be reduced to about five hours.
With surface improvements and final connectivity work wrapping up, the expressway is poised to revolutionize regional transport infrastructure.
Official Confirmation and Broader Benefits
A senior official from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) emphasized the project's national significance. The expressway is set to greatly enhance connectivity between the national capital, Delhi, and Mumbai, India's financial hub.
"Once the expressway is opened, travel between Delhi and Mumbai will become much more efficient," the official stated. The project promises not only considerable savings in travel time but also a reduction in fuel expenses, contributing to economic and logistical efficiency on a major scale.
