East Central Railway Achieves Record Freight Loading and Revenue Growth in FY 2025-26
ECR Records Strong Freight and Passenger Revenue Growth

East Central Railway Posts Impressive Performance Across Key Segments

The East Central Railway (ECR) has demonstrated robust performance for the second consecutive year, particularly in the freight loading segment, solidifying its status as one of the top-performing railway zones in India. According to ECR General Manager Chhatrasal Singh, the zone achieved a freight loading of 203 million tonnes during the 2025-26 fiscal year, securing the fourth-highest position among all zones of Indian Railways.

Strong Operational Efficiency and Revenue Growth

Singh emphasized that this consistent growth underscores the zone's strong operational efficiency and its vital role in freight transportation, especially in mineral and industrial sectors. In the passenger revenue segment, ECR registered earnings of Rs 4,917 crore, marking a significant 6.89% increase compared to the previous financial year. ECR Chief Public Relations Officer Saraswati Chandra attributed this steady rise to improved passenger services and increased footfall across stations in the region.

Catering and Enforcement Activities Show Remarkable Progress

The catering segment also witnessed substantial growth, with revenue soaring to Rs 91 crore, an impressive 88.31% increase from the preceding year. The railways credited this surge to enhanced service quality and expanded catering facilities on trains and at stations. On the enforcement front, ECR performed exceptionally well, securing the third rank in Indian Railways during ticket-checking drives by generating Rs 232 crore in revenue. Additionally, the zone earned Rs 401 crore under sundry revenue categories.

Operational Enhancements and New Train Introductions

Operationally, ECR introduced 45 pairs of new trains during 2025-26, including 17 pairs of Amrit Bharat Express, two pairs of Vande Bharat Express, and one pair of Namo Bharat. Chandra noted that 14,559 trips were operated by special trains last year, facilitating efficient passenger movement during festive periods and peak travel seasons. These initiatives reflect the zone's commitment to improving connectivity and service delivery across its network.

The overall performance highlights ECR's strategic focus on enhancing both freight and passenger services, contributing significantly to the broader goals of Indian Railways in boosting transportation efficiency and revenue generation.
