Electric Stove Sales Double in City Over LPG Supply Concerns

Electric Stove Sales Skyrocket in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Amid LPG Supply Anxiety

Fears of a possible disruption in LPG supply chains, fueled by the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran with US involvement, have sparked a dramatic surge in demand for electric cooking appliances in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar over the past several days. Both residential households and commercial establishments are proactively purchasing electric stoves as a precautionary measure against potential domestic fuel shortages, according to local traders and retailers.

Panic Buying Drives Unprecedented Sales Increase

The rush for electric alternatives intensified significantly after reports circulated that some hotels in the area were already facing operational challenges due to concerns about fuel availability. As these reports spread rapidly through the community, numerous families began acquiring electric stoves to ensure they have reliable backup cooking methods.

Retailer Dipesh Agrawal confirmed that daily sales of electric stoves have nearly doubled in the last three days alone. "Previously, a typical shop would sell between three to eight units per day. Now, that number has skyrocketed to approximately 15 to 20 units daily," Agrawal reported, highlighting the dramatic shift in consumer behavior.

Wholesale Market Reflects Similar Trend

Wholesalers have observed a parallel trend, noting an approximate 50% increase in demand that mirrors growing public anxiety about possible LPG shortages. Trader Mausuf Khan pointed out that infrared electric stoves have become particularly popular because they work with almost all types of kitchen utensils, unlike induction cooktops that require specific compatible cookware.

According to Rajkumar Soni, proprietor of Soni Agency, the electric stove market has expanded remarkably within just a few days. "Earlier, we would typically sell around 40-50 electric stoves per month. That number is now projected to reach approximately 150 units," Soni stated, adding that customers are specifically seeking models that support all varieties of cookware.

Commercial Sector Also Shifts to Electric Alternatives

Commercial establishments including restaurants, eateries, and small food businesses are significantly increasing their purchases of electric cooking equipment. Trader Girish Bora noted that high-wattage appliances such as electric griddles, hot plates, and ovens are particularly favored by commercial users despite their higher price points.

"Although these high-wattage appliances come with a greater cost, food service businesses prefer them for their efficiency and reliability during potential fuel disruptions," Bora explained, indicating a strategic shift in commercial kitchen planning.

Official Reassurance Contrasts with Public Concern

Despite the widespread public concern, district officials maintain that there is no immediate LPG shortage in the region. District Supply Officer Pravin Fulari clarified that the three primary LPG suppliers currently maintain approximately two days' worth of stock. "About 20,130 cylinders are supplied daily across the district. Fresh stocks typically arrive within five to six days. Currently, the Nashik depot is supplying around 140-150 tonnes of LPG," Fulari stated.

Fulari further noted that the district contains 74 LPG agencies, revealing that the refill interval has recently been extended from 15 to 25 days. Traders believe this extended refill period may be another significant factor driving the sudden spike in demand for electric cooking alternatives as residents seek to reduce their dependence on potentially constrained LPG supplies.
