In a significant move towards greener industrial practices, ESL Steel Limited has forged a strategic agreement with the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) for the supply of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to its manufacturing facility located in Bokaro. The company announced this pivotal shift on Thursday, highlighting its commitment to replacing conventional fuels with a cleaner alternative for specific plant operations.
A Strategic Pact for Sustainable Energy
The formal agreement was signed in the presence of senior leadership from both corporate entities. The signing ceremony was attended by IOCL executive director Manoj K Sharma and general manager Amiya Kumar Behera. Representing ESL Steel was the company's deputy CEO, Ravish Sharma. This collaboration is designed to cater to select operational applications within the steel plant, initiating a transition away from more polluting fuels.
Driving Operational Excellence and Environmental Stewardship
Commenting on the new partnership, Ravish Sharma of ESL Steel emphasized its long-term benefits. He stated that the alliance with IOCL is a sustainable step aimed at securing a dependable and efficient energy source for critical plant functions. By opting to replace LPG with PNG, the company is actively reinforcing its dedication to both operational superiority and ecological responsibility. PNG is widely recognized as a cleaner and more sustainable fuel option compared to traditional liquefied petroleum gas.
Expected Benefits of the Fuel Transition
According to ESL Steel, this limited transition to PNG for specific applications is expected to yield multiple advantages. The primary benefits outlined by the company include:
- Enhanced Reliability: A more consistent and secure energy supply for plant operations.
- Improved Safety: PNG infrastructure and usage are associated with higher safety standards.
- Greater Environmental Responsibility: Reduced carbon footprint and lower emissions align with global sustainability goals.
This initiative is positioned as a key part of ESL Steel's broader strategy to adopt sustainable energy solutions, ensuring its manufacturing processes become more environmentally friendly while maintaining high efficiency and productivity at its Bokaro plant.
