The Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) and the Directorate of Industries & Commerce, Punjab, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday to foster skill development, innovation, entrepreneurship, and industrial growth across the state.
Key Signatories and Attendees
The agreement was formalized by FDDI Managing Director Vivek Sharma and Director of Industries & Commerce, Punjab, Jaspreet Singh. Invest Punjab CEO Amit Dhaka was also present during the signing ceremony.
Scope of the Three-Year Partnership
The three-year collaboration will focus on higher education, research, testing infrastructure, startup promotion, incubation, and workforce development. The initiative aims to strengthen Punjab's footwear, leather, sports goods, fashion, retail, and allied sectors through industry-oriented education and advanced skilling programs.
Educational and Research Initiatives
The MoU includes provisions for bridge programs, faculty exchanges, curriculum development, and joint research projects. FDDI's Banur campus will participate in skill development initiatives under various state and central government schemes, including National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF)-aligned training programs.
Testing and Quality Assurance Infrastructure
A key focus is the development of testing and quality assurance infrastructure. Footwear and accessories testing sample collection centers linked to FDDI's International Testing Centre in Noida will be established. Additionally, plans are underway to develop a sports goods testing and development laboratory in Jalandhar.
Support for Startups and MSMEs
The partnership will also support startup incubation, entrepreneurship programs, and capacity building for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across Punjab.
