Kanpur: Gliders India Limited (GIL), a city-based defence public sector undertaking, showcased its products at the Indian Defence Industry Equipment Exhibition organised under Exercise Pragati-I 2026, a major defence event that commenced in Umroi (Shillong), Meghalaya. The exhibition highlighted India's indigenous military equipment and innovations under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) initiative before foreign defence delegations.

Inauguration by Army Vice Chief

The exhibition was inaugurated by Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, Vice Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army. He was accompanied by the Vice Chiefs of Army Staff from 12 different nations participating in Exercise Pragati. The presence of high-ranking officials from multiple countries underscored the importance of the event in promoting defence cooperation and showcasing India's manufacturing capabilities.

Products on Display

The visitors showed enthusiasm for the displayed products, which included Sukhoi-30 pilot and brake parachutes, MCPS, Heavy Drop Parachutes, HAP, PTA-M, and PTA-R parachutes, and Multi-Purpose Poncho Bivouac. These items represent critical components for military operations, demonstrating GIL's expertise in producing advanced parachute systems and field equipment.

GIL Team and Leadership

The GIL team at the event was led by additional general manager Anurag Yadav and manager Praveen Chandra. Their presence ensured effective representation and engagement with international delegates.

Anurag Yadav stated, "Under the leadership of GIL's chairman and managing director, M C Balasubramaniam, the organization is continuously moving forward on the path of progress regarding product development and innovation." This reflects the company's commitment to advancing indigenous defence technology.

The exhibition served as a platform to strengthen India's position as a defence manufacturing hub, aligning with the government's vision of self-reliance. GIL's participation highlights its role in contributing to national security and export potential.
