Panaji: The Goa Tourism Development Corporation’s (GTDC) Mapusa Residency, one of its oldest properties, will be redeveloped at an estimated cost of Rs 60 crore. Despite its central location, the property has struggled to keep up with private hotels in the vicinity due to inadequate facilities and delayed upgrades to match market demand.
Foundation Stone Ceremony
The foundation stone for the project will be laid on Wednesday by chief minister Pramod Sawant. A tourism department official said the redevelopment will factor in evolving trends in the hospitality sector and business requirements.
Property Details
Located next to the Mapusa bus stand and market, the property spans 5,203 square meters, and has served as a key accommodation facility in North Goa for decades.
“The proposed development includes basement parking, commercial spaces, banquet halls, recreational facilities, hotel accommodation, a restaurant, and a cafe,” the official said.
Employment Opportunities
The project is expected to generate significant employment during construction and after commissioning. “Direct employment is anticipated across hotel operations, front office services, housekeeping, food and beverage services, security, maintenance, and administration,” said the official.
Indirect opportunities are also expected for transportation, catering, laundry services, housekeeping supplies, and facility maintenance, contributing to local economic activity and livelihoods.
