Goa Industrial Development Corporation Launches Major Upgrade of Pilerne Industrial Estate
The Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) has initiated a comprehensive and extensive upgrade of the Pilerne Industrial Estate, targeting critical areas such as road quality, traffic management, security enhancements, and worker welfare. This ambitious project is part of GIDC's broader strategy to strengthen industrial infrastructure and significantly improve the ease of doing business in the region.
Road Resurfacing and Traffic Management Overhaul
At the core of this upgrade is the resurfacing of all internal roads using the 'white topping' technique, a highly durable alternative to traditional road surfaces. This method is specifically designed to enhance connectivity within the estate while reducing long-term maintenance costs. According to GIDC chairman Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, a dedicated truck terminal parking facility has also been developed to alleviate congestion and facilitate smoother movement of heavy vehicles.
Traffic management has been thoroughly revamped with the installation of:
- Clear signage and road markings
- Cat-eye studs for improved visibility
- Concrete speed breakers at key junctions
These measures bring the estate in line with modern industrial infrastructure standards, ensuring safer and more efficient operations.
Enhanced Security and Drainage Improvements
Lourenco emphasized that a comprehensive CCTV surveillance system is being deployed across all strategic and high-traffic locations within the estate. This initiative aims to bolster security and monitor activities effectively. Additionally, ongoing works include the widening of internal roads and raising the height of the drainage system between plot numbers 79 and 80-B.
The drainage improvements are crucial to prevent waterlogging and ensure uninterrupted industrial operations, especially during the monsoon season. These upgrades reflect GIDC's commitment to building modern, efficient, and future-ready industrial ecosystems.
Beautification and Worker Welfare Initiatives
Beyond functional upgrades, GIDC has also focused on aesthetic enhancements. The roadside shoulders and kerb stones have been beautified and painted with synthetic enamel paint, contributing to a more professional and appealing environment. On the worker welfare front, the canteen building has been renovated, and interlocking pavers have been laid in front of it to improve accessibility and safety for employees.
Positioning Pilerne as a Model for Future Development
The GIDC aims to position the Pilerne Industrial Estate as a model for future industrial estate development across Goa. By integrating advanced infrastructure, robust security, and worker-centric facilities, this upgrade sets a new benchmark for industrial zones in the state. Lourenco highlighted that these efforts are aligned with Goa's vision for sustainable and progressive industrial growth, ultimately fostering a more conducive business environment.
