Gujarat Pivotal in India's Journey to Become Developed Nation by 2047, Says Chief Minister
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel declared that the state will play a major role in transforming India into a developed nation by 2047. He made this statement while inaugurating the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) annual trade expo, GATE-2026, at the Helipad Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar on Thursday.
State's Economic Contributions and Future Targets
Addressing industry leaders and exhibitors, Patel highlighted Gujarat's robust economic foundations. He noted that the state contributes 8.3% to India's GDP, 18% to industrial output, and approximately 31% to exports. Gujarat aims to build a $3.5 trillion economy by 2047, focusing on emerging sectors such as semiconductors to drive growth.
"Gujarat's entrepreneurial spirit, robust industrial ecosystem, and commitment to innovation will ensure that the state plays a major role in making India a developed nation by 2047," Patel emphasized. He attributed this potential to the state's strong industrial base, supportive policies, and vibrant entrepreneurial culture.
Policy Support and Sustainable Development
The Chief Minister reiterated the state government's dedication to ease of doing business, policy stability, and sustainable economic growth under the Viksit Gujarat 2047 vision. He stressed the importance of green growth, renewable energy, and sustainability-led industrialization, aligning Gujarat's development strategy with global environmental goals.
Patel also spotlighted key initiatives, including the Gujarat semiconductor mission, GIFT City, and the state's logistics policy. These efforts are designed to position Gujarat at the forefront of next-generation industries, enhancing its competitive edge on the global stage.
GATE-2026 Expo Sees Significant Expansion
The GCCI reported a substantial increase in scale for this year's GATE expo. GCCI President Sandeep Engineer stated that the event has more than doubled compared to previous editions, with participation from over 500 exhibitors and more than 30,000 unique registrations.
Engineer further revealed that Deloitte India is preparing a comprehensive long-term roadmap for GCCI, extending to 2047. This roadmap aims to support Gujarat's industrial and economic ambitions, providing strategic guidance for sustained growth.
Energy Security and Industrial Resilience
Jinal Mehta, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Torrent Power Ltd, addressed the critical role of energy security in industrial expansion. He stated that energy security and sustainability are central to economic resilience, especially amid global geopolitical uncertainties.
"Ongoing international conflicts have made energy security synonymous with national security, underlining the need for self-reliance in power generation," Mehta explained. He emphasized that the power sector will be vital in supporting Gujarat's industrial growth and ensuring stability.
Industry Leaders Gather at Inaugural Session
The inaugural session saw the presence of several prominent industry representatives. Attendees included Credai's National President Shekhar Patel, former GCCI President Ajay Patel, and GCCI Senior Vice President Rajesh Gandhi, among others. Their participation underscored the collective commitment to advancing Gujarat's economic objectives.
This event marks a significant step in Gujarat's strategic planning towards contributing to India's national goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, leveraging its industrial prowess and innovative policies.
