Five Workers Hospitalized After Fire Erupts at Gurgaon Rubber Factory
A fire broke out at a rubber factory in Udyog Vihar, Phase 1, Gurgaon, on Friday, resulting in injuries to five workers who required hospitalization. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported in this incident, according to police officials.
Short Circuit in Basement Machine Triggers Blaze
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire originated from a short circuit in a machine located in the basement of the building. This malfunction caused smoke to rapidly fill various sections of the factory, creating hazardous conditions for employees.
An emergency response vehicle team on patrol first detected smoke emanating from the Rubtech (Mech) India factory around 10:30 AM. They promptly alerted the fire brigade and other relevant agencies to initiate a coordinated response.
Swift Rescue Operations Save Trapped Employees
Upon arrival, police discovered five employees—comprising two women and three men—trapped on the first floor due to the dense smoke. Rescue teams broke a side glass panel of the factory to access and evacuate the workers. All five individuals were subsequently transported to Park Hospital for medical treatment.
One of the injured, identified as Vipul, sustained a head injury from the broken glass during the rescue. However, medical reports confirm that all injured workers are currently in stable condition and receiving appropriate care.
Employee Account Highlights Smoke Hazards
A factory employee provided details to the media, explaining, "While the fire started in the basement, thick smoke quickly spread throughout the entire building, including the entrance. Only one person was in the basement at the time, and he managed to exit safely. The five trapped employees were working on the first floor and could not find the exit due to the overwhelming smoke."
Coordinated Efforts Bring Fire Under Control
Police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar commended the rapid response, stating that police teams, assisted by factory staff, immediately began rescue operations. They procured ladders and firefighting equipment from nearby units to aid in the efforts.
Fire brigade teams soon arrived and collaborated effectively to contain the blaze. Kumar emphasized that the alertness and courage displayed by the police prevented a potentially more severe incident, ensuring the safe rescue of all employees.
This incident underscores the importance of workplace safety protocols and emergency preparedness in industrial settings. Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the short circuit to prevent future occurrences.
