Gurgaon Residents Demand Urgent Infrastructure Upgrades Along Dwarka Expressway
Residents of newly developed sectors along the Dwarka Expressway in Gurgaon have issued a pressing appeal to the Haryana government, urging immediate action to bridge critical infrastructure deficits and accelerate long-delayed master plan commitments. They argue that the rapid pace of urbanisation along this corridor has significantly outstripped the provision of essential services, creating widespread inconvenience and compromising quality of life.
Unfulfilled Promises and Delayed Projects
In a formal letter submitted to Industries and Environment Minister Rao Narbir Singh on Saturday, the Dwarka Expressway Gurugram Development Association (DXP-GDA) highlighted numerous unkept promises and persistent delays in key developmental works. The association specifically pointed to lagging progress in internal road construction, sewage management systems, green space development, and basic civic amenities. The group has called for a structured, time-bound execution plan with enhanced accountability among key agencies, including the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), and Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP).
Critical Concerns and Proposed Solutions
Road Infrastructure: A primary issue is the pending construction of 24-metre internal sector roads. While the state government announced plans during the recent budget session to build these roads through land acquisition, with costs to be recovered from developers, residents expressed concerns that this approach could lead to further delays due to potential disputes. They have urged the government to directly fund and construct the roads to expedite connectivity for thousands of households.
Green Spaces and Recreational Facilities: The association emphasised a severe shortage of large public green spaces despite dense residential growth along the Dwarka Expressway belt. To address this, they have proposed the development of a "town park" in Sector 102 and a green belt park near Sector 110 in New Palam Vihar. Additionally, residents in Sector 106 have demanded an integrated sports complex, citing the absence of dedicated sports infrastructure across sectors 99 to 115, Palam Vihar, and New Palam Vihar.
Sewage and Wastewater Management: Wastewater management has emerged as a significant environmental and health concern. The association reported that discharge into the Najafgarh drain is contributing to pollution and raising groundwater levels in adjacent sectors, leading to seepage issues in basements of high-rise societies. They have called for immediate technical interventions and a comprehensive long-term plan to manage sewage effectively.
Civic Infrastructure Gaps: Residents also flagged deficiencies in civic infrastructure, advocating for the establishment of a zonal office of the municipal corporation in the Dwarka Expressway area. They stressed the need for constructing fire stations and cremation grounds as outlined in the Master Plan, along with the early operationalisation of the Mata Sheetla Devi Medical College in Sector 102A.
Official Responses and Future Expectations
Sunny Daultabad, convenor of DXP-GDA, stated, "People have moved into these sectors in large numbers, and a substantial amount of development charges and property taxes have been paid to the government. Yet basic infrastructure has not kept pace. We have now sought a structured execution framework with monthly monitoring and fixed responsibility across agencies." Deputy convenor Sunil Sareen added, "Creating green lungs and sports facilities along the Dwarka Expressway is essential to ensure liveable spaces amid the growing concrete jungle. However, there has been no visible progress on the 100-acre park planned in Sector 102A. There is an urgent need for authorities to align development with the Master Plan to ensure balanced and sustainable urban growth."
In response, Industries Minister Rao Narbir Singh assured that the government is continuously taking steps to address citizen inconveniences and resolve everyday problems in a timely manner. He emphasised that expanding civic amenities alongside urban development remains a top priority. Furthermore, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is scheduled to visit the Badshapur assembly constituency on Sunday, where he is expected to announce several developmental initiatives for the area, which encompasses most sectors along the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) and Dwarka Expressway.
