The iconic American motorcycle brand, Harley-Davidson, is gearing up to introduce its next significant offering to the Indian market this week. This launch marks the second product born from its strategic partnership with the Indian two-wheeler giant, Hero MotoCorp. The new model, named the Harley-Davidson X440 T, is positioned as the successor and a distinct variant of the popular X440.
Harley-Davidson X440 T: A Bold New Design Language
The upcoming X440 T is based on the standard X440 platform but introduces a completely new and distinctive design philosophy. The manufacturer has already revealed the bike, showcasing a roadster stance with revised ergonomics. A key inspiration for the model is the legendary Harley-Davidson XR1200, paying homage to its heritage.
Several new elements set the T variant apart. It features bar-end mirrors, black front fenders, and a prominently redesigned rear profile dominated by a monolithic fender. The seat has been reconfigured for better comfort, complemented by sizeable grab handles for the pillion rider. The motorcycle will be offered in four colour options, two of which are exclusive to the X440 T and not available on the standard model. Branding includes a dedicated 'X440 T' livery on the fuel tank, racing pin stripes on the side, and a slightly redesigned single-sided exhaust.
Familiar Powertrain, Proven Performance
Underneath its new skin, the Harley-Davidson X440 T is expected to retain the same reliable powertrain as its sibling. It will be powered by the 440 cc, single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine. This motor is known to deliver a peak power output of 27 bhp and a maximum torque of 38 Nm, offering a blend of accessible performance suitable for city commuting and highway cruising.
Suspension, Brakes, and Market Positioning
The chassis and braking components remain robust, with the X440 T equipped with USD front forks and twin rear shock absorbers for suspension duties. Stopping power is handled by disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels. The original X440 made waves as the most affordable Harley-Davidson ever sold in India, distributed through Hero MotoCorp's extensive retail network. The X440 T is anticipated to build on that appeal, targeting enthusiasts looking for a more distinctive, roadster-style motorcycle within the accessible premium segment.
Its launch will further intensify competition in the growing 400-500cc motorcycle space in India, where it will rival models like the Triumph Speed 400 and the Royal Enfield Classic 350. The successful collaboration between Harley-Davidson and Hero MotoCorp aims to strengthen the former's footprint in the world's largest two-wheeler market with compelling, locally relevant products.
