HFCL Consolidates Defence Business Under New Entity HASPL with Rs 1,680 Crore Order Book

Domestic technology firm HFCL Limited has announced a major strategic consolidation of its defence business under a newly formed entity, HFCL Advance Systems Private Limited (HASPL). The company revealed on Wednesday that this move will commence operations with a substantial total order book of Rs 1,680 crore, marking a significant step in its expansion within the defence and aerospace sectors.

Strategic Expansion into Aeronautics Manufacturing

In addition to the consolidation, HFCL is making a strategic foray into aeronautics manufacturing through inorganic expansion. This expansion will be executed via the newly acquired firm, Spiral EHL Engineering Private Limited. According to the company's official statement, "HFCL will implement this consolidation through its subsidiary, HFCL Advance Systems Private Limited (HASPL), which will act as the vehicle for multiple defence and aerospace business."

The initiative is designed to bring together complementary capabilities across several key areas, including:

  • Aerostructures
  • Aeronautics
  • Radar systems
  • Advanced thermal weapon sight solutions

These capabilities will now operate under one unified platform, enhancing efficiency and innovation.

Key Highlights and Export Orders

One of the most notable aspects of this expansion is the confirmed export order book, which amounts to approximately Rs 1,570 crore. This significant export component underscores the global competitiveness and demand for HFCL's defence technologies.

As part of this strategic initiative, HASPL will acquire a 100 per cent stake in Spiral EHL Engineering Limited. In turn, Spiral will acquire the Aerostructure and Aeronautics business of Defsys Solutions Private Limited on a slump sale basis. These steps are aimed at creating a vertically integrated platform that spans:

  1. Design
  2. Prototyping
  3. Precision manufacturing
  4. System integration capabilities

HFCL will maintain majority equity in this integrated structure, ensuring control and strategic direction.

Leadership and Strategic Vision

Mahendra Nahata, Managing Director of HFCL, emphasized the strategic importance of this move. He stated, "The creation of HFCL Advanced Systems Private Limited represents HFCL's most significant move with strategic commitment to building a sovereign, technology-led defence capability for India."

Nahata further highlighted the strong foundation upon which HASPL is being launched, noting, "We are starting with a confirmed export order book, proven businesses, indigenous technology and manufacturing assets, and the organisational capability to execute."

Alignment with Government Initiatives

This strategic consolidation and expansion come at a time when the Indian government is actively pushing for indigenisation under the 'Make in India' initiative. With a rising share of the Rs 6.2 lakh crore defence budget earmarked for domestic procurement, and Indian aerospace exports gaining global credibility, HFCL's move aligns perfectly with national priorities.

Upon its formation, HASPL will have an export order book of Rs 1,570 crore, positioning it as a key player in India's defence and aerospace export landscape. This consolidation not only strengthens HFCL's market position but also contributes to the broader goal of enhancing India's self-reliance in defence technology.
