Himachal's ODOP Showcase at HIM MSME Fest Aims for Global Markets
Himachal MSME Fest to Spotlight ODOP Products from Jan 3

The rich tapestry of Himachal Pradesh's traditional crafts and local industries is set to receive a significant platform at the upcoming 'HIM MSME Fest'. The event is scheduled to take place from January 3 to 5 at the prominent venues of The Ridge and Peterhof in the state capital, Shimla.

A Gateway for District-Specific Treasures

At the heart of the festival will be a large-scale presentation of the state's One District One Product (ODOP) initiative. This scheme is strategically designed to bridge the gap between local producers and wider national and international markets. Industry Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan, speaking on Saturday, emphasized that the ODOP program is revitalizing district-level economies. He stated it successfully merges age-old artisanal skills with contemporary market demands, thereby creating a robust foundation for sustainable livelihoods for farmers, artisans, and small entrepreneurs across Himachal.

Diverse Products Reflecting Himachal's Identity

Minister Chauhan highlighted the unique economic identity of each district through its designated ODOP items. The festival will feature an impressive array of products that tell the story of the region's diversity:

  • Chamba Rumal and Kullu Shawls representing exquisite textile craftsmanship.
  • Kangra Tea from the lush slopes of Kangra.
  • Chulli Oil from Kinnaur and Seabuckthorn products from Lahaul-Spiti.
  • Mushrooms from Solan, a hub for agricultural produce.

The initiative also encompasses a broader range of economic activities, including Amla processing in Bilaspur, agro-products processing in Hamirpur, the packaging industry in Solan, the light engineering sector in Una, steel furniture manufacturing in Mandi, and technology-upgraded tourism in Shimla.

Stepping Stone to a Self-Reliant Economy

The minister described the fest as a decisive step towards market integration for these local specialties. He expressed confidence that with sustained policy support and focused infrastructure development, the ODOP initiative can propel Himachal Pradesh's district-specific products to achieve national and global acclaim. This effort is central to the state's vision of building a self-reliant and inclusive economy that celebrates and commercializes its indigenous strengths. The HIM MSME Fest, therefore, is not just an exhibition but a critical launchpad for local enterprises aiming for wider recognition and economic success.
