Hyderabad Railway Stations Get Major ₹1150 Cr Upgrade

Hyderabad's railway infrastructure is witnessing a massive transformation as the Central government accelerates redevelopment projects across Telangana. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy recently inspected the ongoing work at Hitec City railway station, highlighting the significant progress being made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.

Major Railway Station Upgrades Across Telangana

The redevelopment initiative encompasses 40 railway stations across Telangana, marking one of the most comprehensive railway infrastructure upgrades in the region. According to Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, who serves as the Minister of Coal and Mines, the projects have gained significant momentum and become a priority for the government.

Among the prominent projects, Secunderabad railway station is undergoing a massive redevelopment with an investment of ₹720 crore, while Hyderabad station is being upgraded at a cost of ₹350 crore. The recently inaugurated Charlapalli railway terminal adds to the growing infrastructure, and the Kacheguda redevelopment plan is currently awaiting official approval.

Hitec City Station Transformation

The Hitec City railway station, which serves approximately 5,400 passengers daily with 60 local trains passing through, is receiving a comprehensive ₹36 crore makeover. The renovation is being executed in two distinct phases and includes multiple modern amenities.

The upgrade plan features development of a new façade and circulating area, significant extension of the footbridge from 2 metres to 12 metres, installation of two passenger lifts and two escalators, creation of modern waiting areas and toilets, complete renovation of concourse and waiting halls, and additional ticketing facilities on platform 2.

Railway officials have confirmed that Phase I of the Hitec City station redevelopment is expected to be completed by February 2026. During the recent inspection, the Union minister was accompanied by Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, and other senior SCR officials.

Enhanced Connectivity During Festive Seasons

In a significant move to benefit residents of western Hyderabad, the railway authorities provided special stoppages at Hitec City station for 16 mail and express trains during the Dasara and Diwali festivals. These trains connected Hyderabad to important destinations including Bidar, Visakhapatnam, Mumbai, Kakinada, Shirdi, and Narsapur.

The comprehensive redevelopment program represents a major step toward modernizing Telangana's railway infrastructure, improving passenger experience, and enhancing connectivity across the region. The projects are expected to significantly boost the state's transportation capabilities while providing world-class facilities to daily commuters and long-distance travelers alike.
