Hyderabad to Construct Iconic 'Second Cyber Towers' for Civic Administration
Hyderabad is poised to enhance its skyline with a new landmark building, referred to as the 'second cyber towers,' located in the Khaithlapur area. Unlike the original cyber towers that serve IT companies, this structure will be dedicated to civic administration, specifically as the headquarters for the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC).
Project Details and Design Features
The proposed building, with an estimated cost of around 200 crore, will function as the central hub for the CMC, which is recognized as the richest municipal body in the state. The design includes a G+10 structure, nearly double the size of the current Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) headquarters at Lower Tank Bund. Key features of the complex will include a council hall with seating for 100 people, accommodating representatives from 76 municipal wards, ex-officio members, and designated spaces for the mayor and deputy mayor. Additionally, it will house offices for the commissioner, department heads, and dedicated chambers.
The complex will also incorporate a state-of-the-art command and control centre for Cyberabad, aimed at improving municipal operations and services. Furthermore, a separate office for the HMWSSB's Cyberabad zone will be included, ensuring integrated civic management.
Site Selection and Development Plans
Engineering and town planning teams are currently finalizing the design details for this major administrative and architectural centre. G Srijana, commissioner of CMC, stated, "We have identified two potential sites within the housing board layout for the project. One of these parcels is currently under a High Court stay, though it is considered ideal for construction. If the stay continues, we will proceed with a nearby alternative. The goal is to create an integrated facility — a single point for all civic services in Cyberabad, covering everything from municipal and water services to TGSPDCL and HYDRAA."
Current Operational Status and Future Impact
Currently, the CMC is operating temporarily from the National Academy of Construction building in Hitech City on a rent-free basis while awaiting the completion of its permanent headquarters. Meanwhile, GHMC continues to function from its existing premises, and both CMC and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation are based in interim locations, with MMC currently housed in the old HMDA office in Tarnaka.
This new building is expected to streamline civic services and become a significant architectural landmark in Hyderabad, reinforcing the city's growth and administrative efficiency.
