The road transport ministry has proposed new vehicle standards, including provisions for testing air conditioning and heating systems in agricultural tractors, and type approval norms for troop carriers and trailer caravans in India.
Caravan Tourism Gets a Boost
According to the draft automotive industry standards, the norms for type approval for caravans have gained traction as caravan tourism becomes increasingly popular. This mode of travel offers freedom and flexibility in itineraries and accommodation. Trailer caravans are a unique tourism product used for travel, leisure, and accommodation, promoting tours even in destinations lacking adequate hotel facilities.
AC Standards for Tractors
The proposed standard for AC cabins in agricultural tractors will provide relief to farmers and workers who often operate in harsh weather conditions. It applies to agricultural and forestry tractors fitted with cabins and AC systems, excluding hybrid electric and pure electric tractors.
Type Approval for Troop Carriers
The ministry has proposed specific norms for type approval of troop carriers, which are built on bus or truck chassis. Modifications to meet operational requirements sometimes hinder vehicle registration. These vehicles typically include additional provisions for carrying equipment for law and order, internal security, and duties in peace and war.
Smooth Registration Process
The proposed standard outlines norms for original manufacturers or body builders to obtain type approval. Once approved, registration of such vehicles will be streamlined, officials said.
