Jaipur's Unity Mall Project Advances Steadily Towards 2027 Deadline
The ambitious Unity Mall project, currently under construction near Jaipur airport, is making significant progress toward its January 2027 completion target. This flagship initiative aims to showcase one or two indigenous products from each district of Rajasthan, creating a comprehensive platform for local artisans and producers.
Official sources confirm that the Centre has already sanctioned Rs 200 crore for this ambitious project, with approximately 20% of construction work already completed. All necessary approvals have been secured, including clearance from the district administration for transplanting 58 trees from the site, comprising 10 khejri trees and 48 trees of other species.
Project Details and Strategic Location
Announced in the state Budget for 2023-24, the Unity Mall represents a strategic move to promote Rajasthan's rich craft heritage. The project is developing on a 20,700 square metre plot in Dol ka Badh, Sanganer, strategically located near Jaipur airport to maximize visibility and accessibility for both domestic and international visitors.
In November last year, NBCC (India) Ltd was appointed as the project management consultant, bringing substantial expertise to oversee the mall's development. The site selection and project execution have been carefully planned to create a landmark destination that celebrates Rajasthan's cultural and artisanal diversity.
Overcoming Challenges and Legal Hurdles
The project faced temporary uncertainty when an NGO raised concerns about potential impact on the area's green cover. However, the Supreme Court recently cleared the project after examining the case, noting that the land belongs to RIICO and is designated for industrial use.
This legal validation has paved the way for uninterrupted progress. The plot had previously been earmarked for a fintech park by the previous Congress government before the current BJP government cancelled that project and decided to establish the Unity Mall instead.
Broader Development Vision for the Area
The Unity Mall forms part of a larger development vision for the 100-acre area. Beyond the mall itself, a Rajasthan Mandapam has been proposed within the same complex, likely serving as a cultural center and event space.
Additionally, the site is expected to host a Global Capability Centre (GCC), as announced in the 2025-26 Budget. The state government has recently unveiled a GCC policy specifically designed to attract investment in this sector, indicating comprehensive planning for the area's economic development.
The Unity Mall project represents a significant step toward strengthening the trade of Rajasthan's unique products both within India and overseas, while simultaneously enhancing the livelihoods of local artisans and producers across the state.
