Jaipur: JDA to Widen Gatore Road to 80 Feet, Cut Travel Time
JDA to Widen Gatore Road to 80 Feet in Jaipur

The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is set to widen the entire stretch of Gatore Road to 80 feet, aiming to significantly reduce travel time between the city airport and Jawahar Circle to multiple localities in Jagatpura. According to senior officials, once the widening work is completed, motorists traveling to and from Jagatpura and the Jawahar Circle side will be able to use Gatore Road as a faster connector to Hare Krishna Marg. The change is projected to save commuters at least 5 to 7 kilometers on certain trips, improving route efficiency and reducing delays during peak hours.

Project Details and Benefits

Officials added that the project should considerably lower traffic pressure on the Balaji Mod to Number 7 Crossing stretch of Hare Krishna Marg (Mahal Road), a section that often experiences heavy volumes due to limited alternative routes. The widening initiative follows a recent JDA enforcement drive along a 2-kilometer portion of Gatore Road where the carriageway had narrowed to about 35-40 feet because of encroachments. During the drive, the JDA enforcement wing removed around 120 structures. However, about 20 structures still remain on the corridor.

Remaining Encroachments and Resolutions

Enforcement officials stated that owners of eight structures have sought time and committed to removing encroachments themselves. Six other structures have obtained a court stay, which the JDA plans to challenge. The remaining six are religious structures, including temples and a mosque, and discussions are underway with representatives to resolve the issue. The JDA is committed to completing the widening project, which is expected to enhance connectivity and ease traffic congestion in the area.
