JSW Motors Gears Up for Jetour T2 SUV Launch in India with Impressive Safety Credentials
JSW Motors is making significant strides toward introducing the Jetour T2-based SUV to the Indian automotive market. The company has recently filed a patent in India and posted an advertisement on social media platforms inviting dealer partners, signaling that the vehicle's arrival could be imminent. This move underscores JSW's commitment to expanding its footprint in the competitive SUV segment.
Top-Tier Safety Performance in ASEAN NCAP Crash Tests
In a major boost for its market prospects, the Chery Jetour T2 has achieved a full five-star rating in the ASEAN NCAP crash tests, covering both adult and child occupants. The evaluation was conducted on the 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre internal combustion engine (ICE) versions, with the SUV securing a total score of 86.50 points across key safety categories.
Adult Occupant Protection (AOP): The Jetour T2 scored 29.74 out of 32 points in AOP. During the frontal impact test, it recorded 13.74 out of 16 points, providing good head and neck protection for front occupants, adequate protection for the driver's chest, and marginal protection for the driver's left leg. The frontal passenger compartment was rated stable, and the model achieved a perfect 8.00 out of 8.00 in the side impact and head protection test, with all key body regions receiving a 'good' rating.
Child Occupant Protection (COP): For child safety, the SUV scored 40.63 out of 51 points. This includes:
- 15.62 out of 16 for frontal impact
- 8.00 out of 8.00 for side impact
- 9.02 out of 12 for child restraint system installations
- 7.00 out of 13 in vehicle-based assessments
Advanced Safety Technologies and Features
Under safety technology, the Jetour T2 scored 18.00 out of 21 points. It received full marks of 6.00 out of 6.00 for Effective Braking Avoidance (EBA) and Seat Belt Reminder (SBR), along with scores of 1.25 out of 2.50 for AEB City, 1.75 out of 3.50 for AEB inter-urban, and 3.00 out of 3.00 for advanced Safety Assist technologies.
The SUV is equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features, including:
- Six airbags
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
- Blind-spot detection and pedestrian protection
- Child presence detection and rear occupant detection
- ISOFIX mounts for child seats
Driver assistance systems further enhance safety, featuring Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), lane keep assist, forward collision warning, auto high beam, and AEB functions specifically designed for motorcycles and pedestrians.
Robust Off-Road Design and Styling
The Jetour T2 adopts a boxy, upright shape typical of off-road SUVs, characterized by a wide rectangular grille, integrated LED lighting, and round headlamp housings with horizontal LED elements. A flat bonnet, thick bumper, and skid-plate-style lower section contribute to its rugged, off-road-focused design.
Along the sides, the SUV features squared wheel arches, body cladding, and a straight shoulder line that connects the front and rear. Its tall stance, large alloy wheels, and roof rails emphasize its SUV proportions. At the rear, a vertical tailgate with a mounted spare wheel, slim LED tail-lamps, and a prominent bumper complete the robust aesthetic.
Powertrain Options and India-Spec Expectations
Globally, the Jetour T2 is offered with plug-in hybrid and all-electric powertrains. However, the version planned for India has not been officially confirmed. Reports suggest that the India-spec model is likely to utilize the hybrid system rather than the EV option.
The plug-in hybrid variant combines a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 154 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque with a 26.7 kWh battery. This setup supports either single-motor front-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive configurations, with the battery offering a claimed range of 139 km under the NEDC cycle.
Feature-Rich and Tech-Forward Interior
Inside, the Jetour T2 features an upright cabin layout with a wide, layered dashboard that reflects its off-road focus. Key interior elements include a large tablet-style touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, and a tall centre console housing a gear selector, physical controls, and storage spaces. Grab handles, metallic accents, and contrasting trim add to the design appeal.
Notable features expected in the India-spec version include:
- A 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital driver's display
- Panoramic sunroof and wireless phone charging
- A 12-speaker Sony sound system
- Powered and ventilated front seats with automatic climate control
- Safety enhancements like a 360-degree camera, Level-2 ADAS, and hill start and descent assist
With its strong safety credentials, versatile powertrain options, and premium features, the Jetour T2 is poised to make a significant impact in the Indian SUV market upon its anticipated launch by JSW Motors.
