Jodhpur-Jaisalmer Railway Track Achieves Milestone with 121 km/h High-Speed Test
In a significant development for railway infrastructure in Rajasthan, the Jodhpur Division of North Western Railway (NWR) announced on Thursday that the Jodhpur-Jaisalmer track has successfully cleared a high-speed test, reaching 121 km/h. This achievement marks a notable upgrade from the previous speed restriction of 100 km/h, as confirmed by divisional railway manager Anurag Tripathi.
OMS Technology Ensures Track Quality and Safety
The test was conducted using an Oscillation Monitoring System (OMS) train, a technology employed by Indian Railways to assess track quality by measuring vibrations and jolts during movement. This system plays a crucial role in identifying weak spots along the track, enabling timely repairs and maintenance to enhance safety and operational efficiency.
During the high-speed trial, Tripathi reported that no peak exceeding 0.2 G was recorded, which is a key indicator of high-track quality and safe operations. This result underscores the robustness of the upgraded infrastructure and its readiness for faster train services.
Implications for Railway Connectivity and Future Plans
The successful test on the Jodhpur-Jaisalmer route is expected to improve connectivity and reduce travel times in the region, benefiting both passengers and freight services. It reflects Indian Railways' ongoing efforts to modernize its network and implement advanced technologies for better performance.
As railway authorities continue to focus on safety and speed enhancements, this milestone sets a positive precedent for similar upgrades across other divisions, contributing to the overall development of India's transportation sector.
