Major Milestone Achieved in Koraput-Singapur Rail Project
In a significant development for railway infrastructure in eastern India, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has successfully completed the breakthrough of tunnel number 35 in the ambitious Koraput-Singapur Road doubling project. This engineering accomplishment marks a crucial step forward in the high-priority initiative that promises to transform rail connectivity in the region.
Precision Engineering Delivers Perfect Alignment
The 630-meter tunnel, strategically located between Sikarpai and Keutguda stations within the Waltair division, has been completed with what officials are calling 100% alignment accuracy. This remarkable precision demonstrates the technical expertise involved in the project's execution.
Construction work was carried out under the direct supervision of the chief engineer, construction-II, based in Visakhapatnam. Senior engineering officials from the Waltair division were physically present to witness the breakthrough moment, underscoring the importance of this achievement.
Railway Officials Hail Infrastructure Achievement
A senior ECoR official described the successful tunnel breakthrough as a major engineering achievement. "The successful breakthrough of tunnel 35 demonstrates our commitment to precision, quality and timely execution," the official stated. "This is a key step toward enhancing rail connectivity in the region."
K Pavan Kumar, the senior divisional commercial manager, emphasized the coordinated effort behind this milestone. "This milestone reflects the dedication of our workforce and the importance ECoR places on strengthening infrastructure for the future," Kumar noted, adding that the achievement serves as a testament to the seamless collaboration between engineering and construction teams.
Transformative Impact on Regional Connectivity
The Koraput-Singapur Road doubling project falls within the broader Koraput-Rayagada section and is expected to significantly boost rail capacity along this important route. Officials confirmed that once completed, the doubled corridor will substantially improve rail movement efficiency and ease train operations.
"Once the doubling work is completed, the corridor will see substantial improvement in rail movement and overall development in the area," another railway official projected. The enhanced infrastructure promises to bring developmental benefits to southern Odisha and adjoining regions, potentially stimulating economic growth and improving transportation access for local communities.
With tunnel number 35 now successfully completed, the Koraput-Singapur Road doubling project moves considerably closer to its final completion, bringing the vision of improved regional connectivity nearer to reality.
