Mahindra & Mahindra has unveiled a new special edition of its popular BE 6 electric SUV, drawing direct inspiration from its Formula E racing exploits. Named the Mahindra BE 6 Formula E Edition, this launch follows the success of the earlier Bat Edition but marks a strategic shift as it is not a limited production model. The new edition is available in two variants, FE2 and FE3, with prices starting from ₹23.69 lakh (ex-showroom).
Mahindra BE 6 Formula E Edition: Key Specifications and Launch Timeline
The core mechanicals of the BE 6 Formula E Edition remain identical to the standard model. Both variants are powered by the automaker's largest 79 kWh battery pack, which promises a certified range of up to 682 km. The electric motor delivers a healthy 282 bhp and 380 Nm of torque. The major changes are aesthetic, infused with motorsport flair.
Mahindra has announced that bookings for this special edition will commence on January 14, 2026. The first deliveries to customers are scheduled to begin exactly a month later, from February 14, 2026.
What's New in the Formula E Edition?
The special edition model receives extensive cosmetic updates to set it apart. On the outside, it features new circular LED projector headlamps, revised bumpers with skid plates, and a front illuminated logo. Distinctive 19-inch alloy wheels (20-inch on FE3), new LED taillights, and a rear spoiler add to the sporty stance. The most striking visual elements are the race-inspired body decals on the doors, fenders, and bonnet, along with vibrant orange accents on the tow hooks.
Step inside, and the cabin continues the theme with a Firestorm Orange coloured interior theme, a Formula E Edition plaque, and special branding. The seats get FIA logos on the seatbelts, while the windshield bears Mahindra Formula E branding. A race car-inspired start/stop button flap and translucent door inserts complete the immersive experience.
Variant-wise Breakdown: FE2 vs FE3
The FE2 variant, priced at ₹23.69 lakh, comes generously equipped. Highlights include a Sonic Suite with virtual engine sounds, a Formula E-themed startup animation, and dual 12.3-inch screens. It also boasts a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos, 5G connectivity, wireless charging, and a comprehensive suite of ADAS features like a 360-degree camera and blind-view monitor. Safety is covered by six airbags, a high-stiffness bodyshell, and brake-by-wire technology.
The top-spec FE3 variant costs ₹24.49 lakh (ex-showroom). It builds upon the FE2's equipment list by adding two key features: an adaptive suspension for better ride and handling and larger 20-inch alloy wheels. It also includes unique Night Trail carpet lamps for added ambience.
Positioning in the Market and Final Thoughts
By introducing a non-limited special edition, Mahindra is making its Formula E association more accessible to a broader audience. The BE 6 Formula E Edition slots into a competitive segment, rivaling other electric SUVs like the Hyundai Creta EV and the upcoming Tata Harrier EV. The focus is clearly on delivering a unique, sporty identity and a feature-rich package without altering the proven powertrain. This move allows Mahindra to capitalize on the growing appeal of electric performance and its global racing pedigree, offering Indian EV buyers a taste of the racetrack in their daily commute.
