A devastating fire erupted in the early hours of Tuesday at a major pulse-processing unit in Amravati, causing extensive damage to raw materials and high-value machinery. The incident occurred at Mira Industries, located on Kurha Road near Chandur Railway town within the MIDC industrial area.
Fire Ravages Three-Storey Processing Plant
The blaze consumed the large-scale facility, which is spread across 2 to 2.5 acres and operates from a three-storey building. The mill, which processes an impressive 70 tonnes of pulses daily, was operational until 10 pm on Monday. Most workers and owners had departed by then, with some staff residing on the premises asleep when the fire broke out. The exact time of ignition remains unclear.
Massive Firefighting Operation Launched
The inferno was discovered early Tuesday morning when thick smoke was seen billowing from the mill. This triggered a major emergency response. Fire brigades from Chandur Railway, Dhamangaon Railway, Nandgaon Khandeshwar, Teosa, and Amravati city rushed to the scene. Firefighters engaged in a grueling battle, working from 7.30 am to 5 pm to finally bring the raging flames under control.
The fire resulted in the complete destruction of stored pulses, gram, various other raw materials, and expensive processing equipment. Preliminary investigations strongly suggest the cause was an electrical short circuit, though official inquiries are ongoing to pinpoint the exact origin.
Community and Official Response
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported. This positive outcome is largely attributed to the swift efforts of local residents and youth, who assisted in the initial emergency response before professional crews arrived. Police and revenue department officers also reached the site immediately to manage the situation and begin the investigation process.
The incident has halted the significant daily operations of the mill and represents a major industrial setback for the unit. The full extent of the financial loss is still being assessed.
