Major Fire Engulfs Drip Irrigation Factory in Gadwal District
A significant industrial fire broke out on Saturday at a factory specializing in drip irrigation pipeline manufacturing located in Ieeja, within Gadwal district. The incident sent thick, dark plumes of smoke billowing into the sky, creating panic among factory workers and nearby residents.
Origin and Rapid Spread of the Blaze
According to Ieeja Sub-Inspector Srinivas, the fire is suspected to have originated in either the production or storage section of the facility. This area contained substantial quantities of plastic raw materials and finished drip pipes, which are highly flammable. The combustible nature of these materials allowed the flames to spread quickly, complicating initial efforts to contain the fire.
Three workers who were present at the factory managed to evacuate immediately upon noticing the fire, ensuring their safety.
Emergency Response and Damage Assessment
Fire tenders were dispatched to the scene and engaged in a prolonged battle, taking several hours to bring the blaze under control. Police personnel and revenue officials also arrived promptly, cordoning off the area to facilitate rescue operations and maintain public safety.
While no casualties were reported, the fire inflicted severe damage on machinery, raw materials, and finished goods. Preliminary estimates indicate financial losses of approximately Rs 3 crore for the factory management. A comprehensive inspection will be conducted to determine the exact extent of the damage.
Investigation into the Cause
The official cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time. Authorities have suggested potential factors such as a short circuit or a technical malfunction within the manufacturing unit. A formal inquiry has been initiated, and investigators are expected to review the factory's fire safety compliance records as part of the probe. Police have registered a case and are actively investigating the incident.
