Maruti Suzuki Commissions Seven Automated Driving Test Tracks in Tamil Nadu
In a significant move to enhance road safety, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, a leading car manufacturer, has commissioned seven Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) in Tamil Nadu. This initiative is part of the company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, focusing on improving driver evaluation and reducing traffic accidents.
Inauguration and Partnership Details
The facilities were developed in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu State Transport Department and were inaugurated by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin via video conferencing. According to an official statement, this marks one of the first large-scale deployments of automated driving licence testing in the state, covering both two-wheelers and light motor vehicles.
Locations and Project Scope
The ADTTs have been established at Regional Transport Offices in the following locations:
- Coimbatore (Central)
- Tiruvannamalai
- Krishnagiri
- Madurai (North)
- Sivagangai
- Dindigul
- Tiruchirappalli (West)
This project is based on a memorandum of agreement between Maruti Suzuki and the Tamil Nadu Transport Department to automate 10 driving test tracks across the state. The company successfully completed the automation of all ten facilities within 150 days, with tracks at Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, and Marthandam expected to become operational soon.

Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer (Corporate Affairs) at Maruti Suzuki, emphasized that automated testing strengthens transparency and ensures that only qualified drivers receive licences. He highlighted the critical need for improved driver evaluation, noting that India recorded approximately 1.77 lakh road accident fatalities in 2024, according to government data.
National Expansion
With this latest commissioning, Maruti Suzuki has automated 56 driving test tracks across eight states, including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, and Uttarakhand. The company has also signed agreements to establish additional facilities in Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, expanding its planned nationwide ADTT network to 81 tracks.
This initiative underscores Maruti Suzuki's commitment to road safety through technological innovation and strategic partnerships, aiming to create a safer driving environment across India.
